National Heavy Vehicle Regulator

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is Australia’s independent regulator for all vehicles that weigh over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass.

Established in 2013 and headquartered in Brisbane, the NHVR’s vision is to build a safe, efficient, and productive heavy vehicle industry serving the needs of Australia.

The NHVR’s role is to improve safety and reduce the risk of impact from heavy vehicle transport by ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

The NHVR’s focus is on informing, educating, and enforcing regulatory action with heavy vehicle operators and drivers to keep all road users safe, and minimising the compliance burden and the inconsistences of heavy vehicle regulation in Australia.

Above all else, the NHVR’s priority is the safety of heavy vehicle drivers. This includes their mental and physical well-being, ensuring drivers have access to the best possible information, resources, and support.

The NHVR’s partnership with Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds signifies a mutual commitment to improving psychological safety and physical health across the heavy vehicle transport and logistics industries.
