Mental Health First Aid

Overview

In collaboration with Steering Healthy Minds (SHM), we are promoting Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to the transport and logistics industries.

Using a practical, skills-based action plan, participants learn the skills to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

The course includes tailored transport specific scenarios and is provided by accredited trainers. More info via MHFA, here.

What you will learn

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adults 
  • Use an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first aid conversation 
  • Know the barriers to help-seeking and how to overcome these 
  • Assess for a range of crisis situations and provide initial support 
  • Understand the prevalence and impact of mental illnesses, risk factors and treatments and supports available 
  • Apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider

Training delivery options

Length: 2 days (12 hours)

Format: Face-to-face

Participant numbers: 6 minimum, 20 maximum

Overview: Accredited MHFA trainer provides two 6-hour sessions. Upon successful completion of assessment task, a certificate of accreditation is gained.

Registration

Price: Free

Training is always free for participants based in Western Australia. In other states, free sessions are held twice a year in each location.

Outside these free sessions, organisations can book exclusive, paid training tailored to their team’s needs.

Please note: Costs related to employee time, travel, or accommodation to attend training are not covered.”
